Hey Gang, today I just wanted to give you all a heads up that we will be conducting another Reiki Alphabet Challenge starting around Mid May of this year.

For those of you who missed the last one, we will be focusing on a new letter each day for 26 days, covering each letter of the alphabet. Each day will provide something for you to focus your Reiki on for that day. Sometimes it will be an ordinary (yet perhaps overlooked) person, place, thing or idea… and other days the suggestions will be somewhat less than ordinary. All you’ve got to do is follow the thread and follow the instructions.

Linda Lippin will be back as a guest poster, and we are also looking for a few others to help out. Being a long-time fan of Monty Python and John Cleese I generally pay attention when I see something with his name attached, so it was with great curiosity that I watched his Laughter Yoga video. Knowing nothing about Laughter Yoga I first thought it was one of his wacky routines, but soon into it I found it was quite serious… well, as much as laughter can be anyway. Here is the video if you’d like to see what I’m talking about before I start applying it to Reiki.

There are scores of stories, both clinical and anecdotal, about the healing powers of laughter, so combining two healthy endeavors, like laughter and yoga is not such a stretch of the imagination. Nor is the combination of laughter and Reiki… et voila, Laughter Reiki is born, and I can think of quite a few applications right off the top of my head (yeah… that’s right… where the hair used to be). Here are a few:

1. Add a laughing component to your Reiki circles… 10 minutes of laughter makes a much closer group while releasing the necessary chemicals to augment the healing in a rather enjoyable way.
2. Give yourself a Reiki treatment while watching the Three Stooges or whatever comedy tickles your funny bone.
3. Add laughter to your Reiki treatments… as revealed to John Cleese in the video, the laughter does not have to be real, but chances are one you start it will become real. Keep up on the latest bed-side humor and add it liberally to your Reiki healings.
4. Learn to be funny… there are quite a few books written about being funny, delivering jokes any of which can help you to add humor to your teachings, healings, Reiki shares, etc. and it will get you invited to quite a few more parties, which at Christmastime is a nice thing.

If you’re still not convinced there is an interesting article about the healing powers of laughter called Laughter is Good Medicine that makes a pretty compelling argument. Patch Adams presented a similar argument and if you don’t find the evidence that laughter t promotes a longer healthier life incentive enough than I only have one thing to say… pffffft!!!

Today’s letter is “Z” and our focus is on Reiki Zeal.

Let me ask you a question… How excited do you get when you talk about Reiki? How do you go about explaining it to people who have never heard of it? Do you go out of your way to bring Reiki into someone’s life? How excited do you get when you think about it or when you actually do it? When you reflect on this magnificent gift of the universe, how do you justify having it in your life? Do you take it for granted? As a matter of course? As something that you feel you somehow deserve and that should just be? Or are you awestruck each and every time you think about it? What is your level of Reiki Zeal?

You really should be overwhelmed, you know. There is absolutely nothing in the world like Reiki and chances are you’ll never see anything like it ever again. This magic that Dr. Usui happened upon while seeking spiritual enlightenment is no less than a miracle… and with the level of despair in the world reaching epidemic proportions, isn’t it nice to know there’s something positive to balance out the scales? Those of us who have stumbled upon Reiki have stumbled upon a phenomenon no less miraculous than the Holy Grail itself and to consider it any less would be doing it a terrible injustice. Think about that…

if you’ve been doing Reiki for any amount of time, it may have begin to lose it sparkle, so to speak. The intention of today’s challenge is to bring that sparkle back, and to do so in such a way that you will never ever lose it again. To do so, you need to look at Reiki through the proverbial eyes of a child. Through no-mind. Completely without judgment. Think of the power the ability to perform physical, mental, emotional and spiritual healings gives you. Now think of the billions of poor souls who have yet to realize that ability that lies dormant in them and they go through their lives suffering badly with afflictions they could be healing themselves if they would only accept this gift that the universe has offered.

Many people go through life with a feeling of utter helplessness to do anything at all about the situations they find themselves in. Reiki has lifted you above all that and puts you at a marked advantage in virtually every situation imaginable. When you talk about Reiki to others the pure pageantry of it should shine through and you need to feel it within in order for it to shine without… so to speak.

So as you sit there and reflect on the sheer and utter good that Reiki brings to the world. And as you acknowledge that somehow the universe conspired to allow you access to this special magic. What are you going to do with that knowledge? Keep it to yourself? Or share it with all who would hear? As we approach the holiday season the levels of suffering in the world are staggering. Your challenge is to do something about it. No matter how small a contribution you make to the overall good in the world, the universe will appreciate it and you will be rewarded many times over. Let your zealousness for this gift you’ve been given shine like a star attracting to you all that could use the help you have to give… and don’t hold back.

Hopefully the Reiki Alphabet Challenge has inspired you in some way to bring Reiki into your life in a way (or in ways) that previously went unnoticed. If there was one day in particular, that gave you an aha moment, or that brought back some of that initial wonder that you realized when you first began your journey on the Reiki path, I’d like you to think about it for a moment, and think about how that particular challenge differed from the others. If there were several, all the better. Think about that feeling and how good it felt to experience it. Remember it in as vivid detail as possible and cement that feeling (or anchor it, in NLP parlance). Doing so will enable you to recall it at will at any time in the future if you feel Reiki has lost its shine.

We are taught in Usui Reiki II that we can send Reiki to any times, including the past. I have often wondered why it would be important to Reiki past events since they have already happened and the fallout from them is usually done. But lately I have experimented with sending Reiki to events in the recent past and the results are quite interesting.

How many times have you sat down and mulled over the events that happened yesterday and worried about things that happened? We relive things and think, “Did I say that right?”, “I wish I hadn’t said or done that.”, “Well that person probably won’t call or speak to me again.” Reiki can give us the opportunity to reduce our stress and response to yesterday’s events in a way that will make us more productive and better able to focus on today.

For today’s challenge start by sitting quietly and thinking about everything that happened yesterday, good or bad. Don’t dwell on things, simply revisit the events of the day. Then send Reiki first to any “bad” situation that occurred, to the situations themselves and to the players involved; and send Reiki to the “good” situations to strengthen them. Finally send Reiki to the whole day with the intention to minimize the effect that any negative situations will have on the present and future and maximize the effect of what was positive.

In doing this exercise you may start to look at or judge situations less critically and with greater ease and sensitivity. This is good! Use Reiki on Yesterday to help make Today and Tomorrow that much better. Enjoy!

Today’s letter is “X” and our focus is on the X Chromosome… which brings Reiki to the genetic level where we can apply it directly to the DNA. Since the X Chromosome is the female chromosome, we’re working with Yin energy here and once you add all of this together you get a marvelous opportunity to really pinpoint what you’re aiming your Reiki at.

I won’t go into detail here about the functioning of the X Chromosome, in a nutshell, chromosomes are strands of DNA which transmit and carry the genetic information which determines heredity. Each person normally has one pair of chromosomes in each cell of their body. Females have two X chromosomes, while males have one X and one Y chromosome. So everyone has at least one X Chromosome. The X Chromosome is still largely a mystery, but it is generally accepted that it is the information carried in these particular strands of DNA which decides who gets cancer, who gets Alzheimer’s, who is smart, who is fat, who is psychologically balanced, etc.

Giving Reiki directly to these Chromosomes can potentially head off a condition that has yet to surface by healing the energetic imbalance contained in the code. Giving Reiki to these Chromosomes can also permanently “heal” the code so that the genes you are passing to your descendants are healthier. So for today’s challenge you are sending Reiki deep into the building blocks of your DNA (or that of a person or animal of your choosing) for healing at the deepest possible level. For conditions which you are already aware of (cancer and the like) rather than aiming the Reiki at the condition itself, you are aiming it at the proverbial weak link in the DNA chain which either caused that condition in the first place or is blocking natural healing from taking place. Just set your intent to heal the X Chromosome and that should be specific enough for Reiki to drill down and do its thing.

As is true with most Reiki healings, just because you can’t see immediate results doesn’t mean they aren’t there. Continue your X Chromosome Therapy until your guides (or instincts) tell you that you have done all you can. I hope you enjoy today’s challenge… its one of my favorites.

Today’s letter is “W” and our focus is on Wealth. Here’s Lynda, back from her vacation, to elaborate…

We hear a lot about wealth and money lately, what with the US and world economic recessions that are happening. Plus there is so much current publicity about The Secret and the Law of Attraction
that can make it seem like it is ridiculously easy to get lots of money or that there is something personally wrong with you if you cannot.

Now, we are taught in Reiki that through the daily application of the Usui principles and through daily Reiki practice we can increase the flow of positive life force in all areas of our lives. And yes, that includes our financial situations. Does this mean that if we just sit and do Reiki all day money will magically appear? Absolutely not! But it does mean that with practice Reiki can help you to discern where to apply your energy and work so as to earn the best return, financially, spiritually, and emotionally.

For today’s practice I would like you to think about your financial situation right now (be realistic and tell the truth). Do you have enough money to comfortably pay your bills and do things you love to do? Do you love your job? Are you happy in your relationship to work and money?

Get specific here. Do you need more money to pay for basics? Would you like a better apartment? What would be your ideal job?

Write down your thoughts and answers and dreams in a notebook or pad of paper and send Reiki to your list. Revisit your list every few days as you perhaps start to make changes in your life to help achieve your goals and then send Reiki to the revised list. This practice will keep you focused, aware, and moving towards your goals!

Thanks again Lynda for an inspiring post. I’d just like to add an experience of mine, back in my early days of studying Reiki in Japan. On the first day of Reiki class I noticed my teacher (Hiroshi Doi Sensei) give a quick shot of Reiki to some money he was placing in his billfold… upon inquiring about it I was informed that the practice came from Dr. Usui himself. Whether it was to clear the money of any attached negative energies or to actually empower it… I guess we’ll never know…

Today’s letter is “V” and our focus is on Vitamins. Over the years, the depleted health of the soil has been having its effects on the fruits and vegetables provided to us by Mother Earth. For the Meatatarians out there, since our four legged friends eat the grass (and whatever else gets in their way) before making their way to the local abattoir, the less then healthy condition of the foliage creates less than healthy burgers. So, the bottom line is that we increasingly need vitamin supplements to augment our daily nutritional regimens.

Enter Reiki… the supplement’s supplement. Adding Reiki to your vitamins not only increases their potency, but also gives them an organic component… since Reiki is rather organic in nature (or by nature… as the case may be). So whether you’re just taking some additional Vitamin C, one of the Multi-Vitamins with everything from A to Zinc (and then some) or some of the more exotic supplements along the lines of CoQ10, Agaricus, Hoodia, Ginko or Coral Calcium, giving Reiki to your vitamins before choking them down adds the Reiki benefit to the vitamins as well as giving you yet another reason to practice your Reiki.

So today’s challenge is to begin Reiki-ing your vitamins, and those of the people around you. If you don’t have any vitamins to give Reiki to then you can give it to a glass of water… at the very least it might give you a jump start on tomorrow’s challenge!
